Meet Our Team

Steve Obitz

Steve learned the ropes of Sitka coming from Minnesota to fish with his son Nate during the summers. After spending a whole season on the boat with Nate deckhanding during the summer of 2014, he decided to upgrade his captains license and has been returning to Sitka to fish the summers since 2015. When he is not on the water in Sitka, Steve (and Jana) spend a lot of his time at his cabin guiding trips at Lake of the Woods, bow or rifle hunting for whitetails, riding his motorcycle, and being a grandpa to his granddaughter Emery.

Josh Mack

Josh will be joining our team for the 2019 season and has been fishing in Sitka since 2016. Josh started his fishing career in Sitka at a lodge north of town as a deckhand, and worked his way to getting his captain’s license after his second season. During the off season, he returns home to the great state of Minnesota to enjoy hunting, fishing, and backpacking throughout several western states. Alongside Josh, you will find his dog Hank (pictured) who travels everywhere with him. A fun fact about Josh, his first time flying, was the first summer he came to Sitka to work.  Before fishing, Josh was farming as a career. We are happy to have him as a part of our team and are looking forward to his hard working Midwest mentality as a new member to our Alaska Adventures Family.

Cody Wabiszewski

Captain Cody will be joining our team this upcoming season after fishing last season in Juneau, Alaska. During the winter, Cody has been running charter boats in the US Virgin Islands (Pictured is Cody with an African Pompano). Cody grew up North of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended college at Penn State. Before becoming a full time charter fishing captain, he worked in the neuroscience and engineering field. In addition to living in Alaska and the US Virgin Islands for fishing, Cody has also lived in the Florida Keys and New Jersey where his favorite activities were offshore fishing and scuba diving. We are looking forward to having him as a member of our team this upcoming season!

Samantha Obitz

Operations Manager

Samantha is a graduate in the Hospitality and Tourism program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and has been a part of the Alaska Adventures family since the summer of 2012. During her time in Sitka, she enjoys getting to experience the tourism side of her degree in meeting new clients from all over the world. In 2017 her and her husband Nate welcomed their first baby into the world, our new little dock assistant Emery. While back home in Wisconsin, Samantha enjoys hunting and ice fishing with her husband Nate, Emery, and chocolate lab Faith.

Jana Schissel

Assistant Manager

Jana joined our team during the summer of 2018 as our dock/office assistant. She has been a great addition to the Alaska Adventures family. Her smile and positive attitude is something our guests love to be welcomed back to at the dock each day. In the winter, Jana owns her own estate sale business in Minnesota. When she isn’t helping families in need, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, fishing for Walleye at Lake of the Woods, and hanging out with her dog Tim. Great Catch Captain Steve!

Alaina Tschida

Dock Assistant

Alaina is from Burnsville, Minnesota and is currently a Junior at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa studying International Business and Communications. Recently she studied abroad in Thailand for 5 months, and will be continuing her travel adventures in coming to Sitka, AK for the first time this upcoming season to be our Dock Assistant. During her down time she enjoys cooking, baking, reading, and biking. Before entering her senior year of college, we are looking forward to having her in Sitka this upcoming season to give her an adventure she won’t forget!
